While the traditional Latin alphabet is used for most languages, we must not forget that there are just as many languages that use different alphabets . From Greek to Chinese, from Arabic to Japanese, all the way up to Cyrillic, there are many alphabets other than bulk mail masters the Latin one. To send SMS with non-Western alphabets with complete peace of mind and be sure that they are displayed correctly by recipients, however, a different encoding is needed than the traditional one: UCS2.
This is a complete encoding type that , unlike the one normally used, can support any text character.
Set UCS2 Encoding on Trendoo
From now on, setting up UCS2 encoding will be very simple, just go to the SMS > Send SMS page of the Platform and, by clicking on Encoding at the bottom right, you will be able to select it from the list. Sending SMS in Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hindi and many other languages will no longer be a problem.
But be careful, it is always good to remember that when sending SMS with non-Western alphabets, the characters used take up more space (technically they take up 2 bits instead of 1). For this reason, using UCS2 encoding, you will have fewer characters available (70 for each SMS against the classic 160) and it will be possible to concatenate up to a maximum of 450 total characters. Just keep an eye on the counters located below the message composition box to always have the length of your SMS under control!
